Spooky Treats

Today I was off of work. I figured I need a little break before my busy weekend. Since I was off, I decided to devote most of the day to baking. I had planned on making cupcakes, cake pops, and possibly popcorn balls.

I got up around 11am and made the cupcakes and the cake for the cake pops. Then I took a shower and ran a couple of errands. When I got back home, I made the cake into balls and put them in the fridge. Then I made the icing for the cupcakes. I had to have 3 different colors: brown, white, and orange. I had some Martha Stewart cupcake stencils that I had been anxious to use. When I got them out, I noticed that they were quite a bit larger than the actual cupcake. I put the stencil on top the cupcake and poured the sanding sugar over it, and when I lifted it up you couldn't make out the image. I tried it a few more times and then I gave up. I was really disappointed cause I wanted to make super cute cupcakes. So all my cupcakes are covered in sanding sugar. Some of them I made into pumpkins.

After finishing the cupcakes, I started on the cake pops. I wanted them to look like ghosts, so I covered them in white chocolate. They didn't cover as well as I had hoped. After they dried I drew on little chocolate faces. They aren't perfect, but I think they are cute.

There was no way I had time to make the popcorn balls, so I will have to do that another time.

Tuesday I carved my pumpkin. I had never carved one before. I think I did pretty good being that it was my first time. It took me about an hour to clean it out and carve it. But it was worth it. Just look how cute it is!

Pre-Halloween Fun

Friday Amber and I met up with Kristin and Stacey at a Halloween party. We didn't stay long, but here are some of the pictures:

Saturday was the Block Party down on Cedar Springs. I had been looking forward to it for a long time. Me and Kristin had to work, but we went out afterwards. We went out with Keith and William, and then Chelsey met us out there. Later on Amber came out with us. It was fun. I always like seeing everybody's costumes. I think my favorite was a guy dressed as a huge Christmas tree. I wish we could have got out of work earlier, but oh well.

Cold War Kids

Last Thursday was the Cold War Kids concert. Ben, Gina, and I went to Lola's Saloon in Ft Worth. I had never been there before. It was a cross between the Wreck Room and the Double Wide. Small and cramped, but cozy.

So, did I mention that I am absolutely in love with this band. Nathan's voice is just amazing. I love the incorporation of the piano and other not so common instruments. All of the songs seem to be filled with such emotion and raw energy.

It was an amazing show. I wish I had been closer, but oh well. By the way, my ears are still ringing 5 days later. Below are some of the photos I took. This is the first time I have taken my new camera to a concert. I wasn't close enough to get the photos I wanted, so most of these are just pure luck. Anyways...enjoy!

Fun with Foreigners

A couple of weekends ago, Sunday morning started out like every other Sunday morning. I was at work, wishing I was still in bed. I had plans to go out for a drink after work with Keith, Melissa, Rebecca, and Brad. Then we were going to go see Keith’s new apartment.

An hour after we opened, 3 hot guys came strolling in and sat at the bar. Of course everyone was drooling over them. We started talking to them and found out that they were all from different countries. One guy was from Puerto Rico but lived here. James was from Ireland, but lived in London. Andy was from Australia, but lived in Vancouver.

James and Andy had met each other in Cancun a couple weeks earlier. James had been traveling all over (NY, Las Vegas, Austin) and when he came to Dallas, he called Andy and convinced him to come down. They were outside of a party, sitting on the curb together and the Puerto Rican guy drove up and asked them for a cigarette. They started talking and the Puerto Rican guy showed them around Dallas. So they had been up all night drinking and partying.

Since we were going out after work, we invited them to go with us. The Puerto Rican guy left before we went out, so only James and Andy came out with us. After work we went to JR’s down the street. Everyone ended up coming. It was Keith, Melissa, Brady, Bob, Brad, Johnny, David, and some others. After a while, we were hungry, so Keith, Bob, Brad, Johnny, Andy and I all went to Taco Cabana. After eating, we went over to Keith’s to check out his new place. It’s super cute by the way.

We weren’t done partying, so we went over to S4. Upstairs in the Rose Room they have a drag show, so we went up there to watch that. Most of those guys look better than any girl I know. Anyways, after the show we went downstairs to dance. It was getting late and I had to go to work the next day, so I left around 2am. Needless to say, I was exhausted the next day. But it was worth it. Here are some pictures from that crazy night.

Fair Day

I know I have been away. So much has happened, so I’m going to break it up into different posts.

Last Tuesday Mom and I went to the fair. I hadn’t been in 2 years, so I was super excited to go. We got there around noon and didn’t leave until 9:30 pm. We decided to do more than just ride the rides this year.

We started off with a yummy corn dog. Then we ventured off to the dog shows. Watching those dogs made me want one even more. The trainers did this trick where they patted their belly and the dog would jump up into their arms. I want to teach my dog to do that. I just have to make sure I catch it :) We watched 2 dog shows: dog tricks and dancing with the dogs. They were both really cute.

After the dog shows, we headed to the petting zoo. We got to see all the cute baby animals. The giraffe was my favorite. Well, that and the sleeping donkey.
Then we went into the building that had all the clothes and crafts. Mom bought me a Sham Wow. Hopefully it will be useful for my future dog (or cat) accidents. I found some really cute shirts that I liked. They were called How Cute. They kind of looked like the same style as Ed Hardy. I ended up buying 3 of them. I also bought some diva sunglasses.

After shopping we headed to the car show. I saw a few cars that I’d like to have. I really liked the sporty Honda Accord. I also like the new Mazda 6 and one of the Sicon cars. Too bad I don’t have the money to get a new car.

After looking at all the cars, we headed to the Midway. I rode a couple rides and got some pictures. Then we headed down to the light show. We didn’t stick around to watch it long. We went back to the Midway and I spent the rest of our tickets riding rides.

I had a lot of fun. I’m so glad I got to go this year. It’s one of my favorite things!
