I don't understand

How are you supposed to get experience if nobody will give you a chance? Am I supposed to be born with it? I don't understand!

Nobody wants to hire me because I don't have experience. I don't have experience in banking, yet I have over 7 years of cash handling experience. I don't have experience in data entry, but how hard is it to type things on the computer and answer phones? I have the drive and the will, but I guess that is not what they are looking for. It doesn't matter that I have a college degree, that I'm a fast learner, that I am accurate, organized, and detailed, or that I want to be the best at my job. Nope, it all comes down to: do you have experience?

And it surely doesn't make me feel better being second best. We really liked you, but we went with someone else. If I had 2 positions, I would be offering you a job too. That just makes me feel like I'm just not good enough.

I've been looking for a job since August. And nobody seems to want to give me a chance.

All at once

After a busy weekend, I've had a busy week. Monday was pretty much my only day off.

Tuesday:
I had an interview at Resource One Credit Union. I did the interview and took some assessment tests. Later on in the week I was told that I didn't get the job because I didn't have any experience. Then I went to The Bronx and talked to the owner.

Wednesday:
At 10:45 I went to interview with Exclusive Advertising. They called me back for a second interview on Tuesday. I get to spend the entire day shadowing someone to see what they do. So that will be interesting. After the interview I went to North Park for lunch. I had Chick-fil-A and some ice cream from a place that I can't remember the name of. Then at 1:30 I went to Medical City and interviewed at an anesthesiologist office. They really liked me and called me back for a second and third interview. I have to go back on Saturday at 10:30 and Monday at 9:30. Then I went to another agency at 3. The girl told me how to make my resume better, so I need to get on that. Then at 5 I went to The Bronx and stayed for training. It's so laid back there, no side work, no checkers, no tray service.

Thursday:
I went back to The Bronx at 10am and stayed till 2:30. So that ended my training. I ate the ranch chicken there, and it was so yummy. That night I hung out with Les. When I got home I was looking around online and saw that Grand Funk Railroad is coming to town. So I bought ticket and Les is going with me. I'm so excited!

Today:
I slept until noon and got up. I fixed a breakfast sandwich and just played around on the computer. I'm about to get in the shower. I have to be at work at 5. This will be my first night on the floor. Hopefully I will make some money.

Working girl

Well, sort of. This week I am doing a temp job at Mohr Partners, Inc. It's a commercial real estate place. My job is to answer the phones and direct calls. Some may call me a receptionist, but I prefer fancy phone lady. Yes, that will be my new alias.

It hasn't been fun getting up so early. My alarm goes off at 5:30am, and I leave around 7am. The phone doesn't ring too much, so it can get kind of boring. Tuesday I finished reading Wicked while at work. Yesterday I read the newspaper, tried sudoku (that is impossible and only stresses me out. i thought those kind of things were supposed to be better for you!), cleared out all my old emails since from the beginning of the year, and watched MSNBC. Today I brought my journal from London, and I am transferring it into a cute journal that I bought. I've been meaning to do it for a while, but I am lazy and I knew it would be time consuming. I've been doing it all morning, and now my hand hurts.

I can't wait till this weekend. I'm looking forward to sleeping in and seeing Les. I haven't seen him all week. I've been so tired after work that I usually just fix dinner and go to sleep by 8:30pm. Sad, I know.

Next week I have an interview with a credit union. At the beginning of this week I interviewed with Colonial Bank. I'm supposed to hear from them by Friday, which is tomorrow. But if I get that job, training doesn't start till Feb.

I have to call this place called the Bronx. It's a restaurant in Oak Lawn, I believe. Tanya worked there a few nights a week for extra money. I REALLY don't want to do it, but I kind of have to. I don't have any money. Just the thought of working as a waitress makes me tear up.

Les got his license straightened out and his brother-in-law offered him a job. He will be dropping off equipment at different site and get paid $13. I'm so happy for him. I'm glad that he doesn't have to wait tables anymore. Now I just need a job.

Changing the subject, I've decided to take my blog more seriously. I started it at first to be an online journal and to let everyone know what I was up to. It was fun at first, but then I started to feel like I HAD to do it. I would be tired at the end of the day and just write something quick so I could get it over with. Well, no more! I'm only going to write when I actually have time to do it. Also, I've been looking at other people's blogs and they have a bunch of neat things on theirs. I'm going to pimp my blog. Or at least try. I also wish my friends would start a blog (hint, hint, Kristin).

The weekend is over

I can't believe the weekend is already over. Saturday me and Mom went to a really good burger place in Rowlett square called Burger Star. They make homemade burgers and fries. I want to back soon and try their onion rings and brownie sundae. After eating I took some dress pants I had bought a while back to get hemmed. Then we stopped by Old Navy and I returned a couple of things. On the way home we stopped by Uncle Larry's to drop off his peanut brittle. While we were there he told me that he thought he had found an old album I had been looking for. When I was a kid, I used to listen to this Marty Robbins album that featured El Paso. A few years back I asked Meme if she had it, and she couldn't remember what happened to it. So I thought it was lost forever. But when Uncle Larry was going through some old albums, he found it! I was so excited.

Today I got up and made french toast. It was really yummy. Then I just cleaned up the house some and watched TV. Around 6 I went over to Amber's new apartment. It is so cute! It's an old apartment with a real old stove, rounded archways, and hard wood floors. It will be so cute once she gets it all fixed up. We went to Target to pick up some things like a shower curtain, a mop, bowls, and other things. After that I dropped her off and came home. Tomorrow is a busy day, so I need to get in bed kinda early. So now I'm off to make some more french toast, finish my laundry, and read.
