What I've been up to

Lately I've been so busy working. Lame, I know! It's sad, but I'm not used to working this much. I hardly sub anymore, so I try to work full time at the restaurant. I've been working a double on Sundays, which means a 13 hr. day. My body is having a hard time keeping up. Sunday nights are usually the worst because I lay in bed trying not to think about my aching feet and legs. But I'm thankful that I have a job that allows me to make good money. I feel so relived to finally be catching up on my bills and paying off some debt.

This past weekend I had 3 cake orders. The first order was for a little girl's birthday. I made a princess crown for one of the cupcakes, but it broke. I had to make a second crown, and while I was delivering it the thing broke. I couldn't figure out why the crowns kept breaking. I felt so bad. But the cupcakes were pretty :)

The second order was another butt cake. This was fun because I got to put a tattoo on it.

The last order was for my friend's 30th birthday. I made this Hello Kitty cake for her. I'd always wanted to make one, so I was thrilled to finally do it.

For her birthday we went to a karaoke place where you can rent out rooms. Everything was in Korean, including the videos that went along with the songs. It was a lot of fun. It was dark, so I didn't get a lot of good pictures.

Speaking of pictures, I'm in love with the new Hipstamatic chunky lens. It's free, so you should download it! Here are some of the pictures I took with it.

Valentines Day

So I realized that I never did a Valentines post. Oops! I had to work all weekend and Monday, but I did find some time to make goodies. I made these cupcakes for a friend. She let me pick the design, so I decided to make the sweet heart candy out of fondant. I think they turned out so adorable.

My friend also requested these Xbox cupcakes. I could never get the logo right, but I had no problem with the controllers. They were so much fun to make.

I wanted to make something for work, so I decided to make heart shaped cake pops. I'd never made a heart cake pop before, but they were super easy. I just used a cookie cutter to shape them. I was really surprised how cute and professional they turned out. I know it's not cute to brag, but look at these things!

I made some chocolate covered strawberries and cake pops for my Mom. She loves chocolate covered strawberries!

At work I got to experience my first proposal. It was crazy busy and this couple sat down at one of my tables. After I took their drink order the guy stood up and asked me to follow him. He then told me he was going to propose and he wanted me to take pictures. I was so nervous all night carrying around his camera and waiting for the moment. I went crazy with the picture taking when he proposed! It was such a sweet thing to see. I didn't hear anything he said because it was so loud, but she did say yes.

Yesterday

Most Mondays are crappy, but yesterday was a good day. I got to sleep in and rest my tired feet. Mom had an in service day, so she got out of work early. We decided to grab lunch at Panera, which was yummy.

We dropped her Cabrio off at Car Max and said our final goodbyes. I know I haven't blogged in forever, but Mom got a new car! She got a Honda CR-V. Now we have matching cars, except mine is black and her's is white. I'm jealous because my car doesn't have that new car smell anymore.

After that we ran some errands. We stopped by Borders since they were having a store closing sell. I managed to spend $60, and I have no idea how that happened! Hopefully they will still have some of the books I want when prices are marked down to 40% off.

All that shopping made us tired so we picked up some Wing Stop and turned in early. Like I said, it was a nice day off. Here are some pictures I took on the way home.

Project 365 - Week 6

This is my favorite lamp. This is also the kind of picture you take when you are in bed and realize that you haven't taken your picture for the day!
#37
This is the Pope Room at my work. It's a room filled with all things Pope. But the head of the Pope creeps me out.
#38
This is my very small record collection. This year I plan on buying lots of records to build up my collection.

#39

I decided to buy myself a Valentines present. Tulips are my favorite flower.

#40

I'd been craving pancakes for weeks, so I finally made some. And boy were they yummy!

#41

I made these super cute Xbox controllers out of fondant.

#42

These were some Valentine cupcakes I made. I used fondant to make the sweet heart candy.

More snow!

I've spent most of my time snowed in the past couple of weeks. Schools were closed 4 days last week because of the snow and ice. Luckily I didn't have to work until the weekend. The dogs were super excited about the snow. We took them out for just a little bit and they were covered in snow balls in no time.
The snow melted in time for the weekend and brought people out of their homes. I worked my first weekend at the restaurant and made good money. Then the snow came back again. Today was another snow day. School was cancelled and things shut down. I slept in and made pancakes for lunch.
I headed into work, and when I got there they told me I had the night off. So I came home, got in my pajamas and watched Idol. Tomorrow is my day off and I have a lot planned. I'm finally getting a haircut, running errands, and baking cupcakes. I have to make some Xbox and Valentine cupcakes for the weekend. I'm also thinking about trying to make heart shaped cake pops. We shall see...

This is how I feel after a week of training.

#31

Running errands before the bad weather rolled in. Waiting for my oil change.

#32

We got freezing rain that covered everything in a sheet of ice. We also got arctic temperatures!

#33

I had to venture out in the snow to go to work. I took this while I was waiting for the train to pass.

#34

Nothing better than ordering pizza when you are snowed in!

#35

Braving the snow on the way to work.

Project 365 - Week 4

Nothing exciting happened this week. I spent the entire week training, studying, eating pasta, and sleeping.

This is my kitty laying outside my door.
