Camera Inspiration

I want to start collecting vintage cameras and this looks like a pretty awesome way to display them. Right now I don't have any room for a collection, but one day I will. (I also want the collection of books below!)

Here comes summer

This week has been pretty uneventful. Thursday I took Riley to the vet for her shots. I also had them take x-rays to see if she has hip dysplasia. Good news - she doesn't have hip dysplasia. Bad news - she has bad hips :( The vet said that she could probably live with it, but she might eventually have to have surgery. And she has a slightly enlarged heart. My poor baby!
Thursday I also worked on my practice wedding cake. I'm not even going to lie, I'm pretty nervous about this cake. I didn't have any trouble with the piping, but the fondant was not cooperating. Hopefully everything will go smoothly this weekend. *fingers crossed*
Friday after work I came home and got in bed. Later on Amber called to see if I wanted to go eat. She picked me up and we went back to Twisted Root Burger. This time I got a picture of the sign :)

After eating we walked around Deep Ellum and hung out on the rooftop of one of the bars. It was hot and sticky outside, so we didn't stay long. But Amber took these awesome pictures with her phone while we were there.

Today I worked and it was pretty busy. During calls I worked on my crocheting. I'm becoming quite the master ;) Hopefully these little squares will turn into a super cute blanket for someone special.

Speaking of someone special, I want to share these adorable pictures of my nieces. Aren't they the cutest?!

Here is Willa with her BFF Audrey

I'm so excited because I get to see them tomorrow. I'm looking forward to swimming and hanging out with my friends.

Now I will leave you with a random picture. I've killed most of my plants this year, and I figured this one was dying a slow death. Out of nowhere these blooms popped up and only lasted for a couple of days.

Crafty Business

This has been a good weekend, but let me catch you up on what I've been up to the last 2 weeks.
Going back to work after Vegas was hard. I was so tired the entire week! I didn't unpack until the weekend after.

Last weekend was pretty hard for me. On Friday I got a call that my Grandma had had a stroke. She was in the hospital, but nobody knew anything yet. Saturday I had to work. While I was at work I got a message from my mom that said that the stroke my Grandma had was massive and she wouldn't live long. They were going to take her off the breathing machine and she how long she lived. I couldn't leave work to go be with her because I would get points. And if I got points, they might not approve my time off for her funeral. So pretty much, my job sucks. So I stayed at work and went to the hospital right when I got off. She passed away shortly after I arrived.

I probably took it worse than the others in the family. She was my last living grandparent. I had planned on going to see her so she could teach me how to crochet. But of course I didn't get over there in time. I also feel like every time someone passes away that knew my dad, I loose a little bit more of him. They hold stories and memories of him that I will never hear again. And I try to collect as many of those memories and stories as I can so I can hold on to them forever.
Tuesday was the funeral. It was really sad because there were only 5 people there. You would think you would have more people at your funeral after such a long life. But my Dad's side of the family isn't as close as my Mom's side.

After the funeral Mom and I went over to my Grandma's house. She was definitely a crafty woman. She was the one who taught me how to sew. I used to watch her quilt when I was young.

She would also crochet and knit. She had a room full of yarn and material, so I gathered up a bunch of yarn and her needles.

I had to make some cakes that weekend. I made this cake for a friend at work. She likes butterflies :)

This was made for a little girl's 1st birthday. Her theme was butterflies too.

And these were for a baby shower. I think these turned out so cute!

This week my friend at work taught me how to crochet. She just taught me some basic stitches, and I love it. I wanted to crochet every free minute I had.

Over the weekend I made this scarf. It was just for practice, but I was pretty proud of myself :)

This week I'm going to have her teach me how to make a granny square so I can start on my blanket.
Saturday Mom and I went over to my cousin Jeremy's for his birthday. We had a lot of fun and it was nice getting to see him and Tim. I also got to make him this awesome cake.
Today my Aunt Mina came over to drop off some photos. She had gone through my Grandma's pictures and took out all the ones of me, mom and dad. There are some pretty cute ones of me, I'm not even going to lie :)
After she left we decided to go out for lunch. We went to the Twisted Root down in Deep Ellum. I totally fell in love with that place. I was going to take pictures of it, but my camera was dead. They had a sign that said "For the love of God have your order and money ready" and another that said "Our burgers are sofa king tasty." It was the best! And when you placed your order, you got a card with a name on it like Cleopatra, Tiger Woods, Madonna, and lots of other names. When they would call your name, they would also say something funny about it. It was pretty awesome. We had a cheeseburger with pepper jack cheese, jalapenos, and onions rings with fries and fried pickles. Then we had a peanut butter shake. I can't wait to go back!
After we ate we went over to Lula B's. It's an antique store that used to be off Greenville. I found a pretty blue glass vase and some buttons for my button collection. I almost bought some Johnny Cash albums, but decided not to at the last minute. I want to save up some money and go back.
It was hot outside, so we came home and I got back in bed. I could have slept all weekend if I was allowed to. I only stayed in bed for an hour or two and then got up. I had to do laundry, clean my room and bake cakes. I supposed to make my practice wedding cake last weekend, but I didn't feel like it. So now I have to make it this week. I'm a little nervous, but I'm trying to positive. Hopefully it will turn out like I have it imagined.

Flavor of the month

I've been catching up on all the Mentalist episodes I had recorded, so I thought this month should go to Simon Baker. Not only is he smokin hot, but he has the best smile, he's Australian, and he surfs :)

Vegas - Day 4

On the last day we got up early and went down to breakfast. We had to have the french toast again since it was so yummy :) Then we went back up to the room to get ready and pack. We were sad to check out.

Then we walked around looking for souvenirs to take back home. I saw this beautiful dress in one of the stores. I wanted it so bad!

We had seen an In and Out Burger when we took the shuttle to our hotel on the first day. It wasn't on the strip, so we debated on taking a taxi there. Finally we decided to go to see what the fuss was about.

The food was ok. It wasn't as great as I had expected. But I'm glad we went regardless.

After lunch we went back to the hotel to gamble. I sat down at a Sex in the City slot machine and put in $5. I ended up getting up to $71. When I got down to $50 I cashed out. But I thought that was pretty amazing considering I only had $5.

Later we had to catch the shuttle to the airport and check in. We got through security pretty fast so we ate at California Pizza Chicken while we waited to board. Then we got a giant cinnamon roll to take on the plane :) We didn't get back to Dallas until about 11:30pm. Needless to say I was exhausted. I spent all day Monday sleeping. I felt like I needed another vacation to recover from this one!

Vegas - Day 3

On the third day in Vegas Amber and I slept in. Well, we slept till around 10am. We got up, got ready and went out for lunch. We ate at a Hawaiian cheeseburger place that was so good. They had the most tender and juicy burger I've ever had. And they had Coke!! (Apparently everyone in Vegas drinks Pepsi...ewww!)

After lunch we went back to the room to get ready for the weeding. Of course, we were late! I thought it would take about 30 minutes to get to the hotel that the wedding was at. But then we were running behind. And we had to walk through an entire hotel to get to the monorail. If you have never been to Vegas, let me just tell you that those hotels are freaking huge! So that probably took the longest. Then we had to catch the monorail. Once we got off, we ran around like crazy trying to find the chapel. Luckily we made it just in time. As the music was playing we ran in, changed shoes, and threw on our headbands.

Kristin and Tom

After the wedding we went back to Kristin and Tom's suit to have cake and visit.

Here we are catching the monorail.

Later me, Amber, Stacey and Kyle went out for Mexican food. Then we walked down the strip.

Kyle and Stacey

We were so tired when we got back to the hotel room so we just passed out. That seemed to be the theme while on vacation :)
